Lambing has started on the farm and the weather is being kind as we enter the last week of February.
There was a succesful workshop at Semitone Studios called Fleece to Fabric run by myself. We washed wool, carded wool, did some drop spindle spinning, used some spinning wheels and looked at knitting and weaving.
I have been dyeing more wool using acid dyes from Colourcraft. This has been great producing some very bright colours. There are now 12 colours available as dyed fleece and dyed yarn, why not order some today.
I have been making hand carders, drop spindles, hand weaving looms and a skein winder, why not commission some wooden fibre preparation tools.
I have homespun some of the dyed wool and used the yarn for making bobble hats.
Fun and Facts Day at the Roman Lakes was on Sunday September 9th 2018, it saw the Mellor Archaeological Trust present their finds from the dig at the Mellor Mill Site. Greenhill Woolen Crafts had a stall presenting some sheep from the farm, and a display of wool and wool crafts and some information from the British Wool Marketing Board about the processing of the British Wool crop. There were workshop displays of scouring wool, carding wool, spinning wool, and knitting and weaving wool into fabric. The event was well attended with music, beer tent, craft stalls and much more. It will be running again next year with help from the National Lottery.
